Mortal character creation step-by-step


Note: Why the heck would I want to play a human in a vampire game? You might be asking yourself this question, but from personal experience playing a human character in a VTM game, especially a forum game like this one can be very fun and rewarding. Maybe you’re new to VTM and aren’t sure what clan you’d like your vampire to be, or maybe you want that element of chance a real character in the game would have when it comes to what clan they end up being Embraced into. A mortal character’s entanglements in Kindred society (and when/if they find out about it at all) can be great to roleplay out.

Maybe that guy who has a crush on your character just happens to be a vampire and he/she has no idea (and the Kindred in question might need to do their best to have it stay that way). Maybe your character starts out an ordinary human but during the course of the story becomes a ghoul or is Embraced…both are excellent fodder for any role-player. Becoming a ghoul or vampire isn’t required for mortal characters of course; if you want your character to stay an ordinary human for the duration of the story, it’s entirely up to you. Just have fun!

A further note on powers... I have no experience with Mage or Numina/Hedge magic as a whole, so a human character with supernatural powers will be considered a ‘psychic’…as such (unless they simply have True Faith), acceptable choices would be empathy/telepathy, telekinesis, precognition, ect. While I don’t want every mortal character to have powers (this isn’t the X-men after all), I will allow one other psychic character (first come, first serve). Each ‘dot’ of said power will be treated the same (cost wise) as a vampire’s discipline, and it MUST have stated limits in the profile.

1) Choose Concept

2) Choose Nature/Demeanor

3) Fill out your basic info....name, age, ect. This includes what they look like)

4) Allocate your character creation points (Attributes: 7/5/3 (first dot is free) /Abilities: 13/9/5 (These stats start at 0 and cannot exceed 3 before Freebies are spent.) /Advantages: Backgrounds 5/Virtues 7 (each one gets a free dot)

5) Choose merits and flaws (if using)

6) Spend Freebie Points (40) (each blank profile will provide a space where you can show your total number of freebie points and what you chose to spend them on...I WILL check and tally the math XD )

Freebie Point Cost:

Powers (if using) 7 points per dot
Attributes 5 points per dot.
Willpower 1 point per dot.
Abilities 2 points per dot.
Backgrounds 1 point per dot.
Humanity 1 point per dot.

7) Flesh the character out...give us an idea of your character's basic personality, any quirks they might have, and their history. This doesn't have to be a 10 page biography, but a basic overview of who they were and are now.


NOTE: Not required, but I DO encourage players to search online and find a photo or picture that can serve as what your character looks like. This is a great tool for other players to picture your character, and it can be attached or linked to in your character profile once approved.
